Styling Tips No. 1: Know your body shape

Truly the most important tip of all styling tips. Work with your body – not against it. If you emphasize its advantages and conceal its weaknesses, you look better. For those who prefer it in German and with more tips, I recommend the well-done website of the Breuninger department store, which is neutral and independent of any sponsoring. And you can find out here how to get the best outfits in old age by wearing clothes that fit perfectly: These styles make you look old.

Styling Tips No. 2: See what color type you are

Here is my second most important styling tip: Look what color type you are. Spring, summer, autumn or winter?. Here, too, I recommend out of my own conviction, independent of any sponsoring.

Styling Tips #4: Find out what you’re actually wearing

I hung all my clothes hangers on the left and after six months I checked which colorful shirts I had not put on. A great trick to clean out. Because a large part of our clothes we do not wear at all to rarely. Mine, for example, these wildly patterned shirts:

Styling Tips No. 5: Buy well-fitting fabric trousers

Because the looks do indeed look more mature with cloth trousers instead of jeans. A top styling tip, which I read in an article in the GQ, how men over forty dress – and which I therefore recommend at this point.

Styling Tips No. 6: Find a good tailor to change your style

This can optimize trousers, shirts and suits from the bar to your body. It is these one to two centimeters that distinguish a good look from a bad one. Unfortunately, however, the number of change tailors in Germany is decreasing. There were 13,621 in 2016 – ten years ago there were just under 17,000, as the magazine ZEIT Wissen reports. By the way, they have the figures from the statistics portal Statista.

Styling Tips No. 7: Don’t buy compromises

The “slightly” too tight jeans will still pinch in two months and the unfavourable waistband of the leather jacket will also be applied in the future. I can tell you: Sorrowful experiences on your own body… You can find out more about smart shopping in my blog post 11 tips on how to shop cheaper and avoid thinking mistakes.

Styling Tips No. 8: Don’t be a walking advertising space

Wear logos on the chest rather discreet than huge. And buy brands for their quality – not for their name.

Styling Tips No. 9: Resist the Sale

…and save it for what you really need. In the sale we buy more spontaneously and therefore more imprudently. These impulse purchases, however, override the competitive comparison. Also at this point I recommend the further reading of my article Shopping-Hacks für Männer.

Styling tips no. 10: love your shoes

They’re a vital part of your outfit. Show your love by regular cleaning. Also sneakers. Because good and well-kept shoes can upgrade a whole outfit. At this point I recommend the beautifully made short videos from the British mail-order company Asos. In a funny way the video explains in a few minutes how men for example get dirty sneakers white again. By the way, did you know that a German man has an average of 10.1 pairs of shoes? For comparison: a woman: 20.4 (Source: Statista).
